GREAT WATERBASE FINISHES ARE HERE!

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WOOD STAINS
have all the advantages of oil based stains: They spread easily, they can be repaired, they can be blended effortlessly and have the open time necessary to work them.

Country Pine, Pecan, Walnut, Golden oak, Shaker Maple, Early American, Antique Oak, Rosewood, Antique Cherry, Black Walnut, Whitewash, Brown Mahogany and Black Cherry.

These stains are thicker and allow controlled penetration, which will reduce blotching on hard-to-stain woods like Aspen, Pine and Maple. This new stain formula will make wood staining an enjoyable experience for you.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY POLYACRYLIC BLEND VARNISH was recently rated "Best Brush-on" by Fine Woodworking Magazine. This finish can be used in all situations except floors. It is formulated to be durable and consumer friendly, it flows and levels easily and has great adhesion characteristics. It has strong sag resistance for vertical surfaces and its higher polyurethane content provides greater durability than other polyurethane/acrylic blends.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY HIGH PERFORMANCE POLYURETHANE TOP COAT is the hardest, most durable consumer polyurethane top coat on the market today. It contains all the consumer friendly characteristics of PolyAcrylic Blend. In addition it contains UV Stabilizer to protect it from breaking down in sunlight and to protect the underlying stains from fading.

OXALIC ACID TO REMOVE WATER STAINS

We have had several inquiries this month about using oxalic acid to remove applied colored stain. Oxalic acid removes water stains only. For instance, when we are stripping a tabletop or plant stand and there is a brown stain there (usually where a plant has sat) we use the oxalic acid to remove this stain after we have stripped the finish.

We dilute the oxalic acid in water (10 parts water to 1 part oxalic acid) Heat this mixture in a microwave to approximately 180 degrees. Dampen the area around the water stain with cold water. Take the oxalic acid mixture and apply to the water stain. Leave for one minute. Take cold water and soft brass brush and brush the stain away. You can repeat this process twice. Take clean water and rinse. Let dry before applying stain and finishes. Oxalic acid can be purchased at paint or hardware stores

RINGS ON TABLE FROM MOISTURE

There is a possibility that these white rings can be removed with out stripping the finish (It's at least worth trying).

REMOVING APPLIED STAIN FROM THE GRAIN OF THE WOOD

Many people seem to think that applied stain can be removed from wood with bleach. Wood Bleach will remove only water stains, not applied stains.

Lightning Strip Paint and Varnish Remover used in conjunction with a soft brass brush will completely pull all of applied stain from the grain of the wood.

Refer back to the directions on how to use the Lightning Strip for complete instructions, but briefly what you do is spray the stripper on the varnish, shellac, urethane and leave it long enough to soft it through all layers. Next take a putty knife and scrape finish off the top, re-spray with Lightning Strip, wait 3-5 minutes and take the 2" brass brush and plenty of water and scrub the wood. You will see the stain literally run out of the wood. Next use nice clean water and a nylon brush and rinse clean. You will now have nice clean wood with no color except for the wood itself, but you have not disturbed the patina of the wood.

(The only applied color that we know of that does not completely out of grain of wood is aniline dye)

You will notice, also, that we recommend using soft brass stripping brushes and water. The brushes that we sell are meant for stripping. They do not harm the wood and you usually donąt need to sand after you have stripped the finish. Always scrape the paint or the finish before using brushes or the brushes will plug-if this happens, simply strip them.

Water when used reasonably will not harm the wood. Lightning Strip is a water soluble product. Lightning Strip works so fast that you will have no need to leave water on your furniture for any amount of time. When you are completely done stripping the finish, take clean water and wash the piece of furniture down. Dry. Do not leave in sun.

VARNISH, SHELLAC, LACQUER:

All these finishes remove in basically the same manner. Apply stripper, wait approximately 5 minutes-it will appear dry...spray again. Keep it looking shiny and wet!! Use your scraper/putty knife to scrape clear these finishes.

URETHANES:

Urethane is removed in much the same way as other finishes in about 8 minutes. This means you can now refinish kitchens and save money.

FINISH IN CARVINGS:

Paint and varnish will get trapped in carvings. Remove what you can with your scraper and then wipe with paper towels. Spray once again and wash off with brushes. Use brass with the grain of the wood. Clean well with nylon brushes.

LATEX PAINT:

This paint is the most confusing. It is not difficult to remove, but behaves differently then other paints. The color of the paint will dull slightly, but it does not bubble or scrape. Simply wash off with the soft brass stripping brush and water-it will melt away before your very eyes.

MILK PAINT:

Milk paint is the most difficult of all paints to remove. Most strippers will not remove it. Milk paint will take longer than usual. Upon occasion, we have waited up to 40 minutes total elapsed time for 8-10 coats of milk paint. Normally, milk paint will wash off with the soft brass stripping brush in 15-20 minutes. This paint is very hard and is usually found on the bottom coats of paint on Hoosier cabinets, chairs and some dressers.

When you scrape your other paint, milk paint will remain. Simply spray stripper once again and wait another 5-10 minutes. When this paint softens, it will actually dissolve. Wash off with soft brass stripping brush and water.

APPLIED STAINS:

Lightning Strip is the only product that we know of that removes applied stains. You can take the dark completely out of the grain of the wood with the brass brush and water. You end up with clean wood and can make it any color that you want. The only paint, varnish, stain that we know of that Lightning Strip will not take completely out is aniline dye. You wonąt find this very often....it is usually red.

Remove the topcoat first. Reapply the stripper, wait a couple of minutes, take the soft brass brush and water and wash the stain out of the grain of the wood.

LEAD BASE & WHITE WASH PAINTS:

These two types of paint are not alike in composition, but strip much the same. If you have encountered these paints before, you may tend to think nothing will remove them-not true. Lead base does contain lead/metal which is usually hard and is usually painted over bare wood. These paints will usually be removed in 7-8 minutes. WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SAND LEAD BASE PAINTS AS IT WILL BECOME AIRBORNE AND YOU CAN GET LEAD POISONING FROM BREATHING THE DUST.

PAINT FROM METAL AND AUTOMOBILES:

You will no longer need to buy a second stripper to remove paint from metals. Since metal has no pores, paint will be removed even easier than on wood.

You can strip your lawn furniture, as well as your family car. Lightning Strip will even remove automobile primer.

PAINT FROM BRICK:

Since brick is more porous, it will take more stripper to remove paint on brick. If possible, work in the cool of the day or in the shade. Use the same procedure as before. Wash paint off with brass brush and water. If conditions permit, you can use a power washer to remove these finishes.

CEDAR & LOG HOMES:

For those larger jobs such as hardwood floors, log and cedar homes, decks, fences, siding, barns and large pieces of furniture

There are weed sprayers on the market that have no rubber or plastic washers. The container and the internals are polypropylene. That can be used to apply the Lightning Strip. For more information, please contact us.

Those bigger jobs such as hardwood floors, sun decks, cedar and log homes, large furniture, walls, barns are made a lot faster and easier by applying Lightning Strip with this weed spray. For outdoor jobs a power washer can be used to remove the finish. (The power washer may cause some felting/fuzziness to appear. When the wood has dried somewhat use this large brass brush to rub over the wood to remove this fuzz.

....This process has really cut down on time...

HARDWOOD FLOORS:

Why go through the mess of sanding your hardwood floors with all the dust and possibility of gouging your floors?

Now you can use LIGHTNING STRIP PAINT AND VARNISH REMOVER to remove all of the applied stain and finishes from your floor.

Because we use all water-base finishes your refinishing time is drastically cut.

1. Non flammable
2. non toxic
3. water resistant
4. stain resistant
5. no odor
6. water clean up
